FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE QUINTESSENCE OF PARIS IS FOUND AT ELIXIR, IN THE HEART OF YALETOWN

(Vancouver, British Columbia) ELIXIR (e-lik’ser) n. [ML., fr. Ar. al-iksir, fr. Gr. xerion a medical powder, fr. xeros dry.] 1. Alchemy. A substance for transmuting metals into gold; also, one for prolonging life indefinitely; as the elixir of life; hence a cure-all, panacea. 2.. Pharm. A compound tincture or medicine. 3. The refined spirit: quintessence.

Step inside Elixir, Opus Hotel’s new 154-seat bar and restaurant, and take a trip to Paris. The design is pure Parisian brasserie; inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings and Brasaii’s classic French interior photographs, Paris by Night. “We have created the traditional, classic simplicity of a French brasserie, from the marble mosaic floors of the bar area to the dark velvet patterns on the walls of the dining area,” said developer John deC. Evans.

The result is comparable to Pastis or Balthazar or the old La Coupole, in New York City. Walnut blinds and paneling, stain-glass ceilings over a horseshoe-shaped bar with brass railings, and waiters wearing dark pants with crisp white aprons, have created a magical environment at Elixir. From the stylish ambiance of the bar, with its classic white Carrera marble table tops, and antiqued mirrors on the walls, you walk across patterned limestone and red marble mosaic tiles to the sumptuous comfort of the restaurant’s antique red leather banquette seating, where gentle lighting, emulates the gas lamps of a bygone world.

A smaller, more intimate dining area has tall gilt mirrors, antique commodes, and rich mohair-covered seating; a durable and luxurious material almost like velvet. The walls of the restaurant are draped in ruby red velvet, like a tapestry of carpet.

The alchemy of Elixir continues with a classic French brasserie menu created by executive chef, Don Letendre. Tempting hors d’oeuvres include Gateau au Foie de Volaille, and Pissaladiere and Elixir’s “Plats Principaux” include Steak Frites with Bearnaise,Skate Wing Coq au Vin Style, and Confit de Canard.

Elixir, which opened Friday 13, September 2002, is located within Opus Hotel. Opus is a stylish 97-room boutique hotel located in downtown Vancouver’s fashionable Yaletown district.
