Volunteers at thrift store feted for $170,000 worth of honesty
Background
This event is a "feel-good" follow-up to a recent news story about a volunteer at a
thrift store finding – and returning – $170,000 cash hidden in the discarded
clothing of a recently deceased lower mainland man. The man’s estate was not
even aware of the money.
The executor offered the woman all of fifty dollars as a reward from of the estate.
Management at OPUS Hotel and Elixir Bistro at OPUS wanted to do more to
celebrate this woman’s honesty. "She is a role model," said Elixir Manager
Katherine Evans. "Her honesty should get some public recognition."
As a result, tonight Elixir at OPUS is hosting a group of eleven volunteers from
the thrift store for a three-course dinner.
Media availability and photo-ops
OPUS has arranged with the group to be photographed/or filmed while eating.
Elixir manager Katherine Evans is also available for comment. The guests are
available for interviews at the beginning of dinner service. (Times, dates and
locations below.)
